On reading scripture like a married couple

What we've learned from ten years of opening the Bible together — most of it the hard way.

On reading scripture like a married couple
When Cody and I first started reading scripture together, we did it wrong in every conceivable way. We argued about translations. We let our devotional time become a status report. We treated the Bible like a marriage workbook. What finally worked was simpler: read the passage out loud, sit with it in silence for one minute, and ask a single question — 'What is God doing in this text?' Not 'what should we do' first. Not 'how does this apply to us' first. Just: what is God doing here? Application follows attention. Always has.
